Online and Mobile Banking Security Enhancements

Two-factor authentication is coming! We’re enhancing your account security by adding another layer of protection. Beginning September 28, when you log in to Online Banking you will be required to enter a second form of verification – a code that will be generated automatically through the process. This will provide additional protection to help keep your personal information secure.

How does two-factor authentication work?

When logging into online banking or when using the BCCU Mobile app, you will receive a message on your phone (text or voice) with a 6-digit code. You will be asked to enter this code to complete the login process.

All 6-digit codes will come from the same phone number short code (36397). The 6-digit code will be different each time you receive one.

  • The code will expire after 10 minutes. If entered incorrectly you can try again. If the code expires, a new code is required.
  • You will not be asked to enter a 6-digit code at each login, just occasionally for certain financial transactions, when changing personal information, or when logging in from any new device.
  • If requesting a voice call vs. text, the phone number the call will come from is (669) 241-2767.
  • Login to online banking, go to Settings> Profile> Phone Number.

What will my first login involve?

  1. To confirm your account, enter your username and password and answer your existing security questions.
  2. You will then be asked to select and provide answers to 5 new security questions.
  3. Select or provide a phone number to receive the 6-digit codes.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code to view your account.
  5. This only process will only happen the first time you log in.

Can the 6-digit code be sent to an email address? No. A telephone number is required to be used because it allows the use of enhanced security features including viewing device IP address, device type, geolocation, dark web use, and blocking access from certain foreign countries.

Why was this additional security step taken? As security threats become more common, the measures we need to take to protect your personal information have become more sophisticated.
