NOTE: In keeping with your right to privacy, we now have the ability to offer an alternative to using a social security number as your member account number. To find out more, or to initiate a different twelve-digit number as your member account number, please contact or visit the Member Services Department.

The Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union, your member-owned financial institution, is committed to providing you financial products and services to meet your needs and help you achieve your financial goals. We are equally committed to protecting your privacy. You can be confident that your financial privacy has always been a priority of this Credit Union.

We are providing you this Privacy Notice to explain how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal financial information. We hope you find it informative and reassuring as to our commitment to this issue.

Types of Information the Credit Union Collects

We collect nonpublic personal information from many sources – directly from members and their joint owners, co-borrowers, and guarantors who request us to complete and process their service applications and forms. For example, membership applications, loan applications, deposit account applications, and requests for information about accounts or products and services.

The Credit Union also collects information as a result of transactions between the Credit Union and such individuals as a result of providing our products and services. This includes transaction information from share drafts (checks), debit cards, credit cards, automated teller machine (ATM) cards, and electronic transfers (for example, Audio Response/PC Access, or automated clearinghouse (ACH) transactions.)

Information received from consumer reporting agencies.

Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms. This may be obtained from your current or past employers, or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.

Types of Information the Credit Union Discloses

Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union will not disclose any personal financial information to any non-affiliated or affiliated third party. By law, the Credit Union may disclose certain personally identifiable information to companies that perform transaction processing for us without allowing members the right to opt out of the credit union’s sharing agreement.

To protect our members’ privacy, be assured that we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. We do not authorize these companies to sell any member information we provide.

In order to conduct the business of the Credit Union, we may also disclose nonpublic personal information about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. For example:

• To disclose information necessary to enforce the Credit Union’s legal or contractual rights or the rights of any other person who is engaged in the financial transaction.

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.

We partner only with businesses that follow strict confidentiality requirements and we will not sell member information. Please note that certain member transactions, such as real estate transactions, involve the recordation of first and second mortgages in a Land Records Office and become a matter of public record – available to any person or business firm desiring to obtain this type of data.

What You Can Do To Help Protect Your Privacy

Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. Members can help by following these simple guidelines:

• Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit card which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
• Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. The Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union will not assume responsibility for member copies of transaction receipts, payroll stubs, and other personal data left in public areas of the Credit Union during business hours.
• If someone calls you and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official credit union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it. In certain instances, where we have partnered with firms to assist us in providing member services, you will be asked to provide nonpublic personal information only when you initiate the call. For example, requesting a 24-hour phone operator to take a loan application by phone.
• It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of an account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number is not current, contact with you may be delayed.

The Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union reserves the right to amend this Privacy Notice at anytime without prior notice. This Privacy Notice amends any existing agreements the Credit Union has with you. If you have questions concerning this Privacy Notice, please don’t hesitate to contact our Member Services Department. We are here to serve you as a primary financial resource for many years to come.
